What is the engineer interested in  ?  Generally when I am asked to write an article, I try to get my mind right by asking an appropriate question.  After all, in this case we are not engineers, however we do want to promote our product to engineers.  We do have an idea or two about the engineering perspective, and we are listening to learn more. 

Most of all, an engineer wants to apply materials that are safe.  Of  course pressure to meet all kinds of demands is ever present as well.  The structures must be cognizent of cost, and long lifetimes which reflects to cost as well.  And, certainly the design should have visual appeal and improve the public pride in the environment.  Speaking of environment, both new regulations and all our desire to help keep our living space attractive, clean and low impact to flora & fauna.

It is often this last category, environmental, that dictates the use of composite materials, environmental considerations.  The Army Corp of Engineers requires a light transmitting deck material over an endangered seagrass, or a community shuns the chemicals used in pressure treated piles.
